Catching up with 18th and 19th Century Portraits of Children

Oh my it has been many days since my last post!  I missed Christmas Monday and Thanksgiving Thursday! I have been cleaning out the garage and back patio.  All the stuff/junk has been tossed out or put away. It feels so good to go out there now. In the garage I found more old college textbooks to recycle. College was years ago and I can not imagine why I still had them. Next gardening. Now this finally did me in. Removing 30 year old ivy plants was so rewarding but hard work. And then yesterday was the most wonderful rainy day. Two cups of hot cocoa and lots of warm tea it was so cozy. Both my kitties wanted to sit on my lap all day long(at the same time)

 Now it is Sunday and time to get blogging.  Today is a day for beautiful old portraits. A real variety of children's clothing from different eras.

Welcome to you all. Thank you for all your well wishes. Luckily, being careful has paid off My back is doing much better .So grateful it doesn't hurt to sit at my desk and computer aa much. How convenient a laptop would be!

Isn't October going fast?

This post was in my drafts so I have something for you today.  I can post without spending a lot of time at my desk. The pictures and fashion plates are from early 1800's. The ones with the large puffy sleeves are circa 1830. The others are earlier and are Regency fashions. Jane Austen era clothing. The first one and the oil are  my favorite's.

I have been thinking of doing a give away. It would be so fun to put together a collection of goodies or buttons.My only concern is shipping costs over seas. Any hints about doing a give away are welcome.

Historical Regency Fashion Prints. Jane Austen era clothing designs

A posting for all you Jane Austen and Regency clothing  fans.

 Some of these fashion prints were originally published by Rudolph Ackermann. He began his print shop in 1795 and was known for  lithographs. Families,including the children would hand color them by candle light. Historic costumes and vintage textiles and of course lace are some of my favorite things. The back of the dresses are featured in a lot of the prints. I assume that was just as important as the front. Very pretty compared to what we do now. Fashions are from approx. 1800-1820. I have several more that will posted in the future.

Greetings and Welcome to everyone!

This post is in celebration of Jane Austen and the Regency Era. After a bit of searching I was able to come up with some fantastic images for you.  A few are perfect for framing, instant art to adorn your boudoir. Please enjoy them and hopefully they will find their way into your homes and projects. The fashion plates are a good reference for historic  period  clothing.Everyone wants a new gown for your next Jane Austen gathering!

The following two lovely portraits have elaborate hair styles from the period.

Along with "Pinkie" and "Blue Boy" and the one above,these pictures adorned a wall in our dining room when I was growing up.. Maybe that is why I am so attracted to them.The Huntington Library in So California was one of my favorite art museums.

Laundress needed! Think of all the linen and clothing a family with children would need!
